First dial test - Les Tugas watch

The Les Tugas brand has been registered by the IPR and will now serve as a starting point for everyone who wishes to create their own brand or begin offering services in the field. The watch aims to be a showcase of the very best watchmaking being done in Portugal.

The 2025 model already has a few prototypes, with others planned for development until the final version is reached. This process is not limited to creating a watch; it marks the beginning of a long road towards building a solid brand and a lasting legacy. Each stage – from learning the bureaucratic procedures, to identifying the services available in Portugal, to promoting the project – lays a foundation of support for the teams that will emerge in the years to come.

COLLABORATIVE MODEL

There is now a consistent list of national suppliers, which makes it possible to turn an initial idea into a complete and refined watch. Some services, such as making the dial, are carried out by the IPR itself, while others are entrusted to Portuguese craftspeople or companies. There are national companies which, although they often operate in parallel fields, have the capacity and machinery needed to meet the demands of watchmaking. This collaborative model celebrates national production and reinforces the mission of promoting the talent and excellence of Portuguese know-how.

THE TEAM

Les Tugas 2025 has a team made up of 5 IPR students: Bruno Dinis, Bruno Moreira, Jean-Michel Chartiel, Lourenço Salgueiro and Nuno Margalha. Each has a specific role and knowledge of their own, and all have a solid grounding in technical watchmaking knowledge. Every year a new team will be formed, bringing in new students, craftspeople, watchmakers or guest designers. In this way, the members of each team gain the experience and the funds they need to carry on with their business independently.

The fact that Les Tugas watches are the result of the work of a group of students in no way compromises their quality. Each watch is built with rigour and respect for all the principles of the watchmaking art. From the movement – a reliable ETA 2844 that will power the 2025 version – to the details of the finishing, every component reflects dedication, precision and excellence.

MADE IN PORTUGAL

A conscious effort will be made to ensure that most Les Tugas watches result from services carried out on Portuguese soil. There is a special charm in wearing on your wrist a watch steeped in history. And that history becomes all the more meaningful when it reflects the effort, talent and dedication of the Portuguese. A watch that combines national tradition and innovation is not just an object; it is a symbol of pride and a celebration of the best of what we know how to do.

Les Tugas IN THE PRESS

Today, 5 January, the newspaper Público published an article that tells a little of the story of Les Tugas. The journalist João Pedro Pincha and the photographer Miguel Manso visited the IPR, in Boa Hora, Lisbon, and talked to us about this project. The result was included in an article about watchmaking in Portugal.
